David Lesser
Director of Bands

David Lesser is in his first year as Director of Bands at Clovis West High School. He began his teaching career as an Assistant Band Director at Clovis West High School in 2001. Mr. Lesser is responsible for the Golden Eagle Band & Color Guard, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Woodwind section. He has also taught the Concert Band, Brass section, and Advanced Placement Music Theory.

Thanks to his hard working students, Mr. Lesser was named the 2005 Fresno Madera County Jazz Educator of the Year. Under his leadership the jazz band has recorded a CD titled, "Moving Forward." They also continue to receive superior ratings at all festivals and finished 2nd in the AAA class at the 2006 Reno International Jazz Festival.

Mr. Lesser remains active as a professional musician. He performs on the saxophone, clarinet and flute. He has been a featured soloist with the CSUF Wind Ensemble, Lead Alto in the CSUF Jazz Band A, performed with the Four Tops, Mic Gillette, Peter Erskine, and Kim Richmond.

He is currently on the board as the jazz representative for FMCMEA, and is a member of many professional organizations: IAJE, CBDA, CMEA, SJVCGPR, and WBA. Mr. Lesser is married to his beautiful wife, Carol Lesser, who is a Registered Dietician; they have a two year old daughter named Sarah Louise, and they are expecting their second child in February 2007.
