Clovis West High School and Community

Clovis West High School was opened in 1976 as the second high school in Clovis Unified School District (there are now four). Clovis West High School is actually located in northeast Fresno, California but has strong ties to the community of Clovis, California. Clovis West High School is known throughout the state for its commitment to excellence and has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon School.

Fresno is a community of 420,000 and is located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Located just west of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, Fresno is a one hour drive from Yosemite (the "Crown Jewel" of the National Park System), Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Agriculture is the central economic force in Fresno County. Farming in Fresno County includes grapes, figs, all varieties of tree fruit and nuts, cotton and various grains. Much of the United States relies on the agricultural production of the San Joaquin Valley. If you eat, you know us!

Music at Clovis West High School

Since its opening in 1976, Clovis West High School has committed to provide and maintain a quality music program. The Clovis West High School Instrumental Music Department offers Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Quintet, and Advanced Placement Music Theory. The Clovis West High School Band and Colorguard has traveled throughout the United States and Canada performing at the National Concert Band Festival, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (our appearance in 2000 was our third invited performance!), Disney World, the Fiesta Bowl, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Indianapolis, and Vancouver, B.C. The Clovis West performing ensembles participate in various festivals throughout the country and have consistently been recognized for achieving a high standard of excellence through performance.

The students that attend Clovis West High School come to us through Kastner Intermediate School. Credit for these fine musicians must be shared with the talented and committed teachers at Kastner Intermediate School. The success of the Clovis West Music program is also due to the excellent instruction our students receive from our band faculty, our many private teachers, and the support given by the parents and school administrators.
